"They Treated Me Like Family"
Dan-Yel arrived at CTCH when she was twelve years old during a difficult season for both her and her adoptive mother. She needed a safe place where she could continue school, grow in her faith, and experience stability while her family worked through challenging circumstances.
She found much more than a place to stay. House Parents Elroy and Vickey Lamkin welcomed her into everyday family life. She remembers going to church together, shopping for clothes, playing kickball, going to festivals, and spending time with the Lamkins' own grandchildren.
“They treated me like family.”
Although her stay lasted only four or five months, those everyday moments left a lasting impression.
Today, Dan-Yel is preparing for a new chapter as she moves to New York. Looking back, she is grateful for the people who cared for her when she and her mother needed support most.
“I have fond memories of the Central Texas Children's Home. I appreciate them for their help at a time when my mother and I needed it.”

The Mission Was Right Outside Their Door
Long before Raul and Judy Ferris became House Parents, Raul had a dream about two homeless and hungry boys fishing for their dinner. Years later, he realized God was calling him to care for children just like them.
At CTCH, Raul faithfully mentored two boys, meeting with them before sunrise for reading lessons, taking them camping, and investing in their lives with patience and love.
Judy's kitchen became a place where children always felt welcome. Whether serving hot pancakes or homemade Carne Guisada, she wanted every child to know they had a home where they were loved.
The Ferrises often say that being House Parents isn't simply a career—it's a mission field where “the mission is in your own backyard.”
